A 2014 Houzz Survey found that homeowners are wanting to increase the design attention to when doing bathroom remodeling as kitchens have had in the past. National Kitchen & Bath Survey is finding more specification for universal design with 70% of those surveyed predicting to become ADA compliant. 40% believe there will be an increasing trend to eliminate the bathtub in the master suite, in favor of a curbless walk in glass shower, complete with a built in bench and lighting in the shower.
The popularity of the Traditional and the Tuscan style bathroom is being replaced by a more Modern, Contemporary, Zen-like look when designing for bathroom remodeling. The color grey is growing in popularity, but beige, and bone color schemes still dominate.
Wall hung comfort height vanities with quartz countertops are becoming more popular in bathroom remodeling projects. Having the vanities off the floor help make the room seem larger, and adding lighting underneath offers a softer light for safe nocturnal visits, or for setting the mood for relaxing soak in a tub. Homeowners are adding open shelving and linen storage cabinets for more storage.
For the finishing touches, more are having electric radiant flooring. Kohler has introduced a means to flush toilets, hands free (see video below). Comfort height toilets are also preferred.
