Janet B. Cook, dJM graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree
in Education from the University of Nebraska. She has worked as a
Special Educator, Speech Pathologist, and Educational Director of a
juvenile residential facility taking her to Colorado, Wyoming, Utah,
and Massachusetts before making Arizona her home. She also has had 5
years experience working as a downtown hotel manager, has managed 2
retail stores, and has had five years experience in sales and customer
service--being recognized as employee of the year in an organization of
over 25 in 1996.
When she married Jeff in 1998, it was obvious that the company's
reputation had exceeded Jeff's capacity to run the business by himself.
To build the business, Janet resigned working as a Family Service
Counselor to contribute her skills to meet the increasing demand for
Cook Remodeling's services by providing employment opportunities in a
great place to work. She incorporated the business, and the company has
gone from one employee to 20 full time employees, and have more than
tripled the capacity of production in 5 years. Her ongoing focus is
team building by communication and development of operational systems
to improve administrative efficiency and excellent customer care.
Janet annually attends at least two Remodeling/Kitchen Shows run by
national professional organizations, and has taken many hours of
classes at each of the 7 trade shows she has attended thus far. She has
a particular interest in kitchen and bath design, and is working on
becoming an Associate Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler. Janet is
now a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist through the National
Association of Home Builders University, having completed all the
requirements to make homes universal in design for all conditions. "The
goal is for all homes to be accessible on the first floor whether one
is in a stroller or wheelchair. We all experience change as we age, and
by planning ahead, one can make the home more functional and safe." She
also has completed all the course requirements to have an Associate
Certified Graduate Remodeler designation.
Janet is involved with administrative operations and management, plan
design proposals, marketing, research and development, client and
employee care.
Having a passion to make this world a better place, Janet is a trained
on-call lobbyist for the United Nations and is very active in promoting
pro-life, pro-family policies. She is a devoted volunteer at her Church
and community doing things as: personal crises and grief counseling,
Life Teen and juvenile prison ministry, ministering to the home bound
and singing in the choir. She is looking for the opportunity to
volunteer for Habitat for Humanity so she can get hands on experience
building a home for a family in need.
Janet has an interest in health and nutrition, as well as creating
gourmet "raw/living" food dishes. She loves dancing, reading, plays
(with no offensive content as well as edited movies), the outdoors,
bird songs, and taking pilgrimages/going on spiritual retreats.
