The biggest annual professional industry conference for those in construction Is the International Builder Show (IBS). There are so many vendors that set up displays to show what they have to offer, it is enough to fill 3 football fields. Some notable differences this year are more products for the smart home, and for outdoor living. Homes systems and appliances are becoming more interconnected and able to communicate, be monitored or manipulated via our electronic devices. For example, Jenn-Air wall ovens can communicate with the Nest Thermostat to adjust because the oven is putting heat the kitchen. There were more outdoor living offerings reflecting the trend to transform the outside into fully functional living and entertainment spaces. There are more weather proof cabinetry styles, appliances, furniture and entertainment systems.
Each year a panel of about 30 judges decide which products entered in the competition for best of show are the most innovative, functional, and have good design. About five finalists and a winner are selected in each category. This year there were over 400 entries. It is an exciting way to find out about new innovations that are recommended by experts. Here is a highlight of the winners.
