There were many new innovative appliances on display at the 2016 Architectural Digest Home Design Show in New York City for indoor and outdoor kitchen remodeling projects, it is a great time for kitchen remodeling! Some are first of their kind cutting edge and priced to recapture the research and development efforts which brings a high introductory price point, but is exciting to know what technology will be working its way into more appliances.
A favorite for healthier cooking is Sharp’s Supersteam+ combination steam and convection oven. It can grill foods using superheated steam with temperatures reaching up to 485 degrees Fahrenheit, hotter than regular steam, and hot enough to brown and crisp the outside while sealing in flavor, and deliver moist, fall off the bone tender and flavorful inside. The convention fan works concurrently for an even distribution of the steam, good for cooking whole chickens or thick cuts of meat, cooking food faster. Thinner meats, fish, vegetables can be cooked with regular steam. It features pre-set cooking options, and 16 healthy cooking recipe categories such as vegetarian, family meals, even healthy desserts. When shopping for a steam oven, some steam ovens can be hooked up to a water line so water is available as needed for the ultimate in convenience, rather than requiring you to fill a water reservoir.
Built-in cooking guides are becoming more sophisticated. Viking’s TurboChef Speedcook Double Oven uses a touchscreen to ask you a few questions, then sets the time and temperature for cooking. Dacor, Jenn-Air, and Wolf even have panels that play “how-to” videos. Scheduled to be released at the end of the year, will be the June Intelligent Countertop Oven with a built in camera to recognize the food and recommend cooking settings, and allow you to watch the cooking process from your smart device.
Samsung has The Family Hub Wifi enabled refrigerator with 21 inch touch screen that enables a family to share a calendar, access recipes, even play music. It also has a camera that takes a picture of the contents every time the door is closed. If you are at the grocery store and wonder what you need to buy, you can look to see what you have, or lack! It has a lower compartment that can switch between cooling, or freezing.
Marvel has developed the industry’s first Outdoor Refrigerator/Freezer with an ice maker option for outdoor kitchens. It is an undercounter unit, is capable of making up to 7 pounds of ice, and has precise temperature management with dynamic cooling technology, proven to cool contents nearly two times faster than other models. It comes with a stainless steel, corrosion resistant exterior and has been tested to perform in temperatures as high as 115 degrees Fahrenheit. If you do not want the icemaker, the 1 cubit ft. freezer will hold 12 pints of ice cream.
