A fireplace to gather around for conversation while watching the dancing flames?

A big screen tv sports viewing, movies?

An outdoor kitchen?  Do you want it to include: A grill and side burners?  a griddle? a stone hearth? a warming drawer? a prep sink? an undercounter refrigerator and/or ice maker? Steel cabinet storage?

How big of a space do you want for conversation gatherings?

How many people do you want to accommodate for outdoor dining?

Do you want a place to curl up with a good book? Or a place to stretch out just gaze at the sky or do some bird watching? Would you like a place to play cards or board games? Would a place for a hammock to fulfill a dream? Don’t forget to plan for a sound system.

How do you want to manage the elements?  Have in floor heating with outdoor curtains or screens to hold the heat in, or block the sun or wind? Overhead heaters? Do you want ceiling fans? Have ample lighting, with the capabilities to brighten or dim the lights.

Would an addition of a guest house provide a screen to create that intimate space?

If you have a pool, do you have a place that you can rinse after swimming? You may want to add that convenience.

You may want to make the patio ceiling high for a grand experience in the space with glass door walls on the home to bring the outdoors in and maximize natural light and the visual extension of the home. Consider adding supporting steel beams to eliminate columns on your patio.

For a final outdoor lifestyle touch, you may want to include Tower Gardens in your design. You and your guests can enjoy the flavor of freshly picked organic produce while listening to the soothing sound of a fountain.
