The International Builders Show (IBS) has the largest display of products (the size of 4 football fields!) for construction professionals to view what they would recommend for their clients. On a smaller scale, the annual Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) also selects products to award that are outstanding in innovation and design. Hundreds of companies submit entries, and here are some of the winning products that will greatly increase function and even fun!
Kitchen Transition by NanaWall Systems (photo above). This is a brilliant way to open up the kitchen to the back patio to make the space seem larger and bring the outdoors in. It offers a “snack bar” option for food service, or to have a place to sit that will take up little space in the patio. If your kitchen is too small for a breakfast bar, or if you want to enjoy eating outdoors without the hassle of cleaning an outdoor table (you’ll only need a quick wipe of the counter), this is a perfect solution. The kitchen is always a magnet for people, so you can have your guests gather at the breakfast bar while you are creating in the kitchen!
Integrated Refrigerator & Freezer Columns  by Sub-Zero. Freeing up kitchen design possibilities to meet the homeowner’s need, freestanding refrigerator and freezer units lets the homeowner select the size of each that they need. Integrated means they can be paneled to look like cabinetry, and the option of a filtered water and ice dispenser is on the inside of the door for a seamless look. The IC 30 and 36” freezer are energy star rated.
Fontanina 2 by Fountain Faucet. Remember school days of turning a lever at the drinking fountain for water? This reinvented bathroom faucet has a lever too that will send an arched water stream over the sink for a drink of water. They offer an inline filtering system too. They say it is an easy way for men who shave with a razor to rinse off shaving cream as well.
Flexwasher & Flexdryer by Samsung. These smart (they will push notifications that they have finished their cycle, etc.) front load laundry units offer a 2 in one appliance. There is a small washer on the top as well, great for small loads, or for delicate items. The dryer has a separate drying rack shelf unit on the top of the dryer.

Microgreens are prized baby plants that are 1-3 weeks old (not to be confused with sprouts which are harvested at 1-2 days) and utilized at high-end gourmet restaurants for their more intense flavor and sweetness as well as vibrant colors and textures. Their popularity is surging as health conscious homeowners discover it is a way to add 5 to 40 fold more nutrition per serving. They can be sprinkled through salads, a handful added to smoothies, piled on sandwiches, and be a garnish layer on soups, pizza, eggs, etc.
Our bodies have to deal with tens of thousands of free-radicals which accelerate aging and disease, making us sick and tired. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals, and antioxidants are found in fruits and vegetables. That’s why it is so important to get at least 9-11 servings the size of a cup every single day. Microgreens are a great solution, but are difficult to find fresh and affordable, so more and more are growing their own herb and vegetable microgreens.
Start with good seed (e.g. Johnny Seed), provide a medium that keeps the seeds moist with 12-16 hours of light. There are plants that offer more dense nutrition: red cabbage, green daikon radish, garnet amaranth…but what matters is growing the ones you want to eat, and growing them easily and conveniently. The above photo is a self-watering system that can be grown indoors (it has a light kit), or outdoors, and one can have up to three harvests per planting! For a video and more information on growing microgreens send an email , and put in the subject, microgreens.
For an easy way to boost your vitamins, minerals, polyphenols, and antioxidants, add microgreens to your meals every day!

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

" We knew someone who used Cook Remodeling, so we called when we wanted to remodel our bathrooms. The carpenters always maintained a professional and productive work environment. They were courteous and considerate. Everyone we worked with went above and beyond our expectations. We give Cook Remodeling a perfect 10, and we don’t give that high of a rating lightly. Use us as a reference. We want others to know how great a remodeling experience can be!"

How to Go Green When RemodelingIn the last decade or so, more and more Americans have begun recognizing that it is our responsibility as individuals to try to limit the negative impact we have on our environment. If you want to do more for the Earth than just “reduce, reuse, recycle,” here are a few ideas to think about when it comes to your next remodeling project.

Water Conservation
With a staggering 60% of residential water use tied up in landscaping, alternatives like Xeriscaping are becoming more and more popular as a way to help the environment and save money. This type of landscaping focuses on water conservation through the use of drought-resistant plants, which help to cut down on the amount of water used for lawns and landscaping.

Innovative Roofs
A team of MIT students have taken on the challenge of developing temperature-sensing roof tiles that can change from light (to reflect heat) to dark (to absorb heat) based on the temperature outside. While they are not on the market yet, Thermeleon tiles are said to reflect sunlight at a rate of 80% when white, so it’s something to keep an eye on.

Energy-Efficient Lighting
Take advantage of natural lighting by installing a skylight, converting an existing wall into a window wall, or using mirrors and light colors to reflect natural light throughout your home. When choosing light bulbs, LEDs are a great energy-efficient option because they use 25-90% less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs.

A New Product
One advancement in the area of green products is the AQUS® grey water toilet , which collects the grey water from your bathroom sink, filters and disinfects it, and then stores it in a holding tank under the sink. When you’re ready to flush your toilet, it is then transferred to the toilet tank with the help of gravity and a small electric pump.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
James 1:17
Coming back from a trip, we always park in the covered garage which is closest to the tram. As we were walking in the garage a car abruptly stopped and the driver rolled down the window and said, “Get in, I will take you to your car.”
We nervously looked around for security, as he managed to open the passenger door and said, “Get in, I give you a ride to your car.”
We just stood there in our tracks.
He threw his car in park, got out and stood by his car and pleaded. “I’ve been driving around for 30 minutes looking for a parking space and I need to catch my flight. I just want to make sure I get your space.” Now we understood, and helped him out.

A smoothie can be a tasty meal that can be easily blended and taken on the go. Make sure that yummy goodness is promoting and building health, rather than disease! Many people add protein to their drink to make it a meal, but one has to be very careful in what they choose.
The Clean Label Project tested 134 popular retail protein supplements and found toxic contaminants of lead, cadmium, mercury, pesticides and carcinogens in them. Based on a rating scale of 1-5, with 5 being good, 74 of them scored 1 star because of their toxic levels—yikes! In 2010 Consumer Reports tested the 15 most popular protein powders and also found heavy metals and contaminants. How can you be a smart consumer?
Don’t be fooled by the marketing terms , natural, holistic, miracle ….read the label. Avoid whey as It is a waste product that is acidic and difficult to digest (so the protein levels are high). Rice also has frequently been found to be contaminated with arsenic. Look for a whole plant based protein mix that is high in fiber, gluten free, and GMO free. For peace of mind, buy a protein powder that is third party tested and certified to be pure, then you never have to worry if a batch (I don’t know of any in retail stores, but do know of one sold direct to the consumer. Email for more information —it is the only one with a perfect protein availability score.)

The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
