What Makes for a Good Online Class Experience?

Online education is being utilized more at home by students who are in school, employees participating in remote training, as well as by those who want to continually develop themselves. It is a different medium than in person with its drawbacks, but it is still teaching. It will still have the same limitations as being as good as the ability and creativity of the teacher and the support available to them, but it is also about realistic expectations and being a good student.  Here are some considerations to maximize success.

Have the Same Expectations
Know the learning outcomes of the class, what will you be expected to know/to master at its conclusion, it should be the same as what you want. A syllabus should provide an outline of where you are headed. To ready the mind to learn the material, if there is a book, look over the titles of the chapters. Before starting a chapter in the class, read its conclusion, and then page through the chapter looking at the images and turn the headings into questions. It will increase interest in wanting to know the answers.

Look for a Balance of Delivery Methods
A good online class will offer more than just a lecture but will seek to teach using different learning styles (visual, kinesthetic, auditory, etc.). It will offer a variety of ways to learn, including visual presentations, recorded videos, reading content and hands-on activities for active, experiential learning. Using multiple methods keeps participants engaged and ensures a full understanding of the content. Do your part by having your physical space clear of distractions. Be ready before the start time, and well nourished, with water nearby.

Expect Interactive Discussions
Just as with an in-person class, discussion and personal relationships is an important part of online learning. Look for classes that encourage community building and connection. As a student, think in terms of that if you are not the speaker, you are the listener, so whether it is the teacher or another student talking, seek to get to know them by hearing what they have to say.  Be sure to participate in group discussions and answer questions from the teacher to get the most out of the class.

Be able to Access to Instructor During and Outside Class
Ongoing communication is key for success. Find out when assignments will be given and when you can expect a response or feedback from the instructor. Throughout the online course, instructors should be available at scheduled times to address questions and concerns of participants, whether that be a dedicated 10 minutes at the end of class or a block for “office hours.”

If you find yourself taking a class that is lacking in one or more of these areas, or if the pace is too slow or too fast, address it in a constructive way with the instructor. Chances are he or she will appreciate the feedback and the course will improve for you and the other learners.

And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.”  Revelations 21:5

Clients Reviews

I can’t say anything negative about Cook Remodeling. I absolutely adore them. They did everything that they said they would do. They did such a super job for my previous home where they did a kitchen, a bathroom, and a room addition. In this house I did not hesitate to call them do a complete room addition. I would recommend Cook Remodeling to anybody. I have referred them to several of my friends and have never had any bad feedback.
