Be Inflation Proof with a Home-Based Business

September 22 is American Businesswoman’s day and more people are stepping away from being an employee to join their ranks. An employee can have little control over their work schedule, promotions and income earned, hence the attraction to being one’s own boss. Going into business can seem out of reach since it typically requires significant capital to cover start-up costs (which average over $30,000) plus 2-3 years working capital. There is also the ominous statistic that despite lots of sweat equity, 70% of new businesses fail. Even those who pay more for a franchise still have an average risk of 20-40% failure. There is an easier, less cost way more people are discovering to become a business owner.

There is a hybrid model of having a micro business by becoming an affiliate marketer for a company that sells direct to the consumer. Direct Selling Association says 75% of these independent reps are women.  People are more quality conscious and want recommendations from people who have used a product or service before they buy. The same type of person who shares This business model does not have the additional burden of overhead, inventory, employees, payroll, etc. of a traditional business. There are many benefits that attract women of having a business within a business. One can set their own schedule, improve business and personal skills, be able to earn more income, and take advantage of a clear path to upper leadership.  It has the practical perks of added tax benefits and personal perks of being a part of community with the fun and friendship from joining a team.

Successful people in network marketing will advise, represent an industry you have a passion for.  There are the areas of:

    • health & wellness industry (which is the fastest growing),
    • cosmetics & personal care,
    • household goods (kitchenware, cleaning, candles….),
    • clothing,
    • and legal/financial/insurance services.

You probably know people who are sharing products/services that interest you. These are questions to ask to see if you too would choose them for your business.

  • How long have they been in business? Is it privately held (so not pressured to cut corners to post more profits for shareholders)? In how many countries? Are they in a growth mode?
  • Are they responsive to the input from the field and continually improving?
  • What support do they offer to make earning money easier? Do they collect payment and ship to customer? Do they offer in-house customer service? Do they guarantee satisfaction and how do they handle returns?
  • How many products do they offer? Is it a simple consistent brand line or is it constantly changing to get more sales? Do they have a stable set of products to be consumed daily for long term customers/repeat business? What makes the product unique? Does it have third party gold standard research? Third party certified for purity? Made in the USA?
  • Is the culture positive, mission driven and cooperative and welcoming, or competitive emphasizing material gain with pressure to hit quotas to keep earning level? Is there low turn-over?
  • Can everyone be trained by the best, with modular training available 24/7?
  • Can a person add as much team as they want? Bypass their sponsor and earn more, or are they limited? Is there a clear career path, generous bonuses, benefits such as tuition reimbursement and insurances?

The majority of employees are not getting raises to stay ahead of inflation, for businesses are trying to deal with rising costs too. It is rare that an employee has the option to work more to earn more, or even have the ability to ask for times of the day off for personal reasons. As an affiliate marketer, you determine when and where you work, and there is no glass ceiling to rise to the top of leadership. You can earn more by helping others duplicate the provided system, building a paycheck so one is not tied to trading time for money. Time freedom might be the best perk of all.

I am prompted to write this article because the company I am affiliated with in health and wellness is in a growth mode and has waived the 1st year application fee for the month of September. I would be happy to have a discussion to see if this would be an opportunity that makes sense for you. Send me an email of when it’s a good time to call.  It’s a great time to make a change!

‘I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord. ‘plans for prosperity and not for calamity, to give you a future and a hope.’ Jeremiah 29:11
