The Trend of Unretiring or Planning to Have a Part Time Business

Posted on by in | 0 Comments

A recent survey(1) found that after retiring, it was unexpected how much people were missing the opportunities of social connection and more meaningful use of time in their day that work gives. Others wanted more monthly income and preferred to turn leisure time to financial gains. Fifty seven percent looked for another work opportunity soon after. The majority reported working part-time being an effective transition from working full-time.

During their working career, many people desire retiring from their job to take it easy, travel, play tennis/golf/pickleball etc., but as one warned from experience of being there, “You can only play so much golf, and travel for so long, and by the time you are bored with it, it’s too late to go back to work! If you have the ability to work, find something you enjoy and keep the mind active.” The brain benefits from the stimulation of social interactions and learning/improving personal skills. The variety of activity in the day is satisfying, besides, if we don’t use it, we lose it! There are also emotional benefits of having purpose bigger than ourselves, making an impact on others in a meaningful way, feeling appreciated and needed through a work community.

The report found women and single retirees have a stronger interest in the aspect of earning more income. They want to delay taking Social Security for maximum benefit and defer taking retirement account withdrawals to save that for when they no longer can work. They value creating financial well-being both for the short and long term.

The report also found that retirees are not seeking to return to what they were doing before, but venturing into new vocations that resonates with their passions where they can utilize their skills. They look for flexible job opportunities that offers the ability to determine their own balance of work and leisure.

Others who are too young to retire, who do not have a corporate pension to look forward to (including self-employed contractors), or are dissatisfied with their job or concerned that they could be laid off and want to have a Plan B in place. They may designate their part-time endeavors to accelerate reaching their financial goals, for vacation money, to send kids to private schools, or to better support favorite charities. Another study found that half of all Baby Boomers have an entrepreneurial spirit and want to have their own business and be their own boss without the steep investment of capital in a traditional business and pressure of working many hours to make it succeed. What is a solution?

Many are turning to Network Marketing for a turnkey business with little investment and control of their schedule. It is like owning a franchise, for a good company provides marketing materials and a personal website, training, and even does payroll! One is mentored and gets to mentor partners, grow a team, rise in leadership, with the opportunity for bonuses, promotions and recognition. There are even tax benefits for a having a home-based business!  And for the ambitious, there are more self-made millionaires in Network Marketing than in corporate America, if you have financial goals of six figures or more.

How to Get Into Network Marketing

Choose a product that has value and interest to you that you want to share. People will be attracted to your story and the enthusiasm of what you found. If one is the type to recommend a great restaurant, book…you are already network marketing! There are products for kitchen and home, health and wellness, beauty, and even clothing. You may want to consider if the product is a one-time sale, e.g. water purifier, or a product for occasional use, or a solution that would be used daily for continual and more stability in income.

Once you find the type of product, then vet the company. The best source is to talk to a few representatives and ask about their experience. Here are some questions you may want to ask.

  • How old is the company. Does it have strong leadership with vision that anticipates market need? Are they responsive to the field’s input?
  • Are the products guaranteed? Is it a simple portfolio, or an ever-changing catalogue to learn?
  • Do they collect payment and ship direct to the customer, or do you have to carry inventory and deliver product?
  • Is the culture positive and cooperative with people helping others even though they aren’t on their team, versus competitive with only your sponsor helping?
  • How good is the training?
  • Are there quotas? Territory limits? Are they international?
  • Is there longevity/retention of leaders high in the company (vs. high turn over)?

I have found there are many benefits with joining a network marketing company. There are friendships, events for socializing and training, and personal growth opportunities (learning time management, consistency, leadership skill development, etc), and write offs for travel! I have a passion to help people get healthier, have more energy, feel good and look good. It is so rewarding it doesn’t seem like work!

I chose a fifty+ yr. old international company on a mission to help people get healthier. They were the first to market fruits and vegetables in capsules or chewables, an easy indoor or outdoor vertical aeroponic gardening system, and have the only plant Omegas that are 100% cold processed to protect the fragile oils, and offer a plant protein drink mix that has the highest bioavailable protein. If you would like to explore what we do, to see if it is something you would like to be a part of, please write me.
