Kitchen Remodeling Trends for 2017

kitchen remodeling trends chandler

Last year, the national average of increase in home value hit double digits. With such a sizeable increase in equity, the Leading Indicator of Remodeling Activity, is predicting residential remodeling in 2017 to be at the highest level. Not only will homeowners finally decide it is time to do kitchen remodeling, they are likely to do whole house remodeling to facilitate their needs and lifestyle as well. What are the kitchen remodeling trends chandler that are replacing the look of yesteryear?

As the style of an open concept kitchen develops, kitchens are becoming barely there blending into the looks of the rest of the home. Upper cabinets are disappearing, replaced by a walk-in pantry and large kitchen island, open shelving and perhaps a section of floor to ceiling cabinetry to provide more than enough storage. Appliances have cabinetry insets so they are camouflaged.

Ease of maintenance and long term enjoyment (aging in place) are important factors for today’s kitchen remodeling projects. Ample lighting, including under-cabinet LED rope lighting, and fun pendant lights over the island. Appliances are energy efficient and are of adequate size to meet the family’s need. Quartz countertops are preferred since they are more durable than granite. Lower cabinets have deep drawers for dishes, and pull out drawers for easy accessibility. Induction cooktops make for quicker heat transfer to the pot, not to the room. Wall oven with a side door makes for easy transferring of food.

Homeowners are mixing styles. Two tone “tuxedo” cabinets are gaining in popularity, varying the colors of the upper and lower cabinets, or having the set of cabinets or island be an accent. Color combinations such as white/wood stain, white/grey, even a navy blue with a soft gray adds variety. Countertops are more neutral in color, and may include a wood surface. Bold colors are being used for the backsplash. Some prefer extra-large tiles with texture for their backsplash.

For the luxurious custom touch, niche appliances are being added to facilitate lifestyle. From a specialty coffee bar and wine refrigerator to a steam oven and warming drawer are popular additions. Island seating is designed so those seated face the view to the outdoors. A moveable glass wall expands the kitchen for outdoor dining and entertaining. An outdoor kitchen can add more specialty appliances such as a hybrid grill (has choice of wood, charcoal, or gas heat), or a pizza oven.

Happy kitchen remodeling!
