An Outdoor Kitchen and Lounge for Dad!

Posted on by in | 0 Comments

Since everyone gathers around the cook in the kitchen, you will want to extend the beauty of home to the outdoors for people will gather there too!  Home Remodeling projects that include outdoor kitchens and outdoor rooms are gaining in popularity. An outdoor kitchen is desirable both when the weather is nice, and when the weather is hot to help keep the indoors cooler by cooking outside. Think about how you want to use and layout your space to fit how you like to entertain and relax. You may want it close to the house, or away under a pergola. These are popular outdoor kitchen remodeling basics to make the ultimate domain for Dad.

Built-in grill station.  An ideal location is easily accessible from your kitchen. Consider cooking ventilation needs, that its away from where kids play, or fire hazards and has the protection from the elements. Include side cabinets for supplies, trash and recycling bin. Would you want an outdoor sink? It makes cleaning up as you go easy! You can even use a divided sink with one side with ice and bottle/can beverages. Would you want an under-counter refrigerator?

Bar seating. When designing your home remodeling project, you can configure the outdoor kitchen to have bar seating so you can talk to others while minding the grill. You may want to set up more bar seating at a pass-through window from the kitchen. Consider making it counter height seating to make it align with the popular “open concept” and maximizing counter useability.

Outdoor furnishings. Having a great dining table and flexible conversation areas with comfortable and attractive furniture will go far in making it the destination to hang out.

Focal Point. Would a water feature or fire be preferred?  From pool to fountain, and fireplace to fire pit, there are different options to get the effect of relaxation. If a sports type lounge is the theme, an outdoor television may be the focal point.

Lighting. There are outdoor chandeliers for more formal and pendant lights for informal to choose from to reflect your style. String lights say this is a fun party! Sconces can give an industrial feel. You will want both ambient and task lighting.

Heating and Cooling. You can extend the patio’s use by providing means to cool via ceiling fans, outdoor curtains or roll down shades to block the sun or a misting system, and overhead or portable heaters.

Layer with Textures and Colors. More than just furnishing fabric and pillows, visual interest can be added with a wood or bamboo wall, a patterned wire screen, tile, area rugs, planters. If you have the height, perhaps a kind of bead board or beams on the ceiling.

It is good to extend your home living to the outdoors which has healthier air and helps reconnect us with nature.

Happy Home Remodeling!
